Don't Miss your opportunity to read a great book and chat it up with a celebrity hostSix (mostly) local celebrities have each selected one of their favorite books to discuss with youour CBB supporters and friends. 

Book groups start at 7 PM at The Children's Book Bank and like other book groups, include munchies and drinks.

Jack Jewsbury, retired Portland Timbers midfielder, is one of only 10 MLS players to play 350 or more games in league history. His accomplished 14-year playing career included an MLS Cup championship and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy. Jewsbury is currently part of the Timbers’ front office as director of business development.

Bonnie Morales, Kachka Chef and Co-Owner is the first-generation American daughter of Belarusian immigrants. Morales (née Frumkin) grew up in Chicago in a large family. In 2014, the Morales’ opened Kachka, a restaurant devoted to the food that Bonnie grew up with, inspired by Russia and former Soviet republics. Kachka was named Willamette Week’s Restaurant of the Year in 2014, and has since received much acclaim and accolades from publications such as Bon Appétit, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Elle and Food & Wine.

Brandon Summers is the lead vocalist/guitarist and lyricist for Portland indie rock duo The Helio Sequence. He’s been recording and performing professionally for over 20 years, working with legendary label Sub Pop, releasing six full-length albums, and touring internationally as a headlining act. His career has brought him far and wide, performing on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, NPR’s World Café, and festival stages from Brazil to Berlin while garnering recognition from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, The New York Times, and Village Voice among others. Summers also co-owns Helio Sound, a full service recording and production studio working with both music industry and commercial clients.

Laura Veirs takes 2018 by the horns with three new projects. In April, Veirs released her tenth solo album, The Lookout, on her boutique record label, Raven Marching Band. To build community and combat her own loneliness, she began Midnight Lightning, a podcast about the lives of musician parents. Veirs also published her first picture book, Libba: The Magnificent Musical Life of Elizabeth Cotton. Illustrated by artist Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, the book is aimed at children ages 5-8.
