Birth to Three

Emerging research continues to show that when it comes to language development, the earlier, the better. Reading aloud stimulates language development in children even before they can talk.

90% of brain development occurs between birth and age 5.*

The Children’s Book Bank bolsters the number and variety of books at home by providing babies and toddlers with personal collections of 10-16 books, while physicians educate parents about language development, prescribe a daily dose of reading aloud, and provide one new age appropriate book at each well-baby visit.

Through our Books for Babies program, The Children’s Book Bank currently gives bundles of books to 25 families per month in partnership with the Reach Out and Read early literacy program implemented by physicians at Children's Community Clinic in North Portland.
